Booking Sean Buvala for Your Event
By: Sean Buvala

Sean describes the collection of stories in his head as "life and legend" representing the the mix of stories from his experiences, myth and legend from many cultures, sacred stories and observations of shared life events with those whom he has had honor of knowing in the past and present. As a storyteller, Sean primarily works with teens and adults. He describes his style as somewhere between "in your life and in your face" depending on the needs of the group he’s telling to/with at any given gathering. Sean recognizes the ability of story to change the lives of the listeners, as he see stories change his own life as a teller.

Sean has been presenting and storytelling "on the road" for 20 years. He’s traveled to perform and present workshops in over two dozen states and to more than thirty organizations in those states. His audiences have ranged from just few people gathered in a living room to several thousand teens and adults. Both national organizations and local groups have experienced Sean as a teller and workshop leader.

As well, Sean’s background includes almost two decades of "on staff" work with adolescents at locations in the greater Phoenix area, with responsibilities from middle school to adult programming. He’s created and directed programming that has received national attention. He’s been instrumental in the development of several statewide leadership training events for teenagers and those who work with them. Sean is currently on the pastoral staff at Holy Family Church in Goodyear, Arizona.

Sean’s experience also involves training and design for the telecommunication and hospitality industry. He’s done customer service instruction/team development for companies ranging from government, to faith based organizations to major corporations.

Sean is an author as well. He’s had a number of magazine articles published and is a regular contributor and media director for Storyteller.net. His latest print contributions can be read in the St. Mary’s Press book, "She Said, He Said," and in an article for Youthworker Journal. He’s produced several CD’s of storytelling and theater with many more on the way, including a Volume II of stories intended for teenage guys.

Sean’s stage and theater presentations have included such productions as "Burn," "One Fool Experience," "Voices from the Noise," "So My Brothers and Sisters Can Eat," and Calling Out a Rising Sun." There have also been many hundreds of presentations custom designed for the sponsors who’ve used Sean in the past.

Most important of all- Sean is the father of four daughters and husband of one wife. He lives in the Phoenix, Arizona area. He says that he is a great cook.

Sean uses a variety of communication forms to help drive home the theme you have selected. Storytelling, mask theater, "whole body" prayer. Maybe he’ll bring to life both men and women of Scripture in realistic and powerful Lenten-based monologues. On tap could be a workshop using hands-on learning. Challenging your group with a keynote that combines solid theology with the reality of day-to-living could also be the order of the day.

Maybe you’ll use Sean for his Advent presentation of "Burn" which combines storytelling, metaphor and digitial modes to take a mature look at being the Light of the World- when we’d much rather take the "light duty" day off for a while.

Sean understands that no two groups are the same, even in the same cities. You’ll find that he can adapt to any size group, environment or needs. He is especially able to customize his presentations for either professional or volunteer ministers. His experience includes most major denominational and nondenominational audiences as well.

We promise that your group will remember what Sean says and does. What is more important, your participants will be challenged to contemplate your theme and its implications for their ministry, personal lives and relationships with God. Go beyond the ordinary and provide your group with something memorable.
