A Little Bit Nervous
By: CFCM Staff

When you woke up this morning, we’re you a little bit nervous?

I am especially speaking to those who have a "job" in ministry. Was there something in the agenda of today that made your heart beat a little faster, your brain a little more on edge, your soul more expectant?

If not, why not? We’re dealing with the most life changing Message anyone can hear. Do you remember *that* every day when you go into your job? Is there someone at your church who is going to ask you to explain yourself, challenge you to defend why you do what you do? We hope so.

We’re pretty straightforward about this at the "Center for Creative Ministry." If you aren’t doing something that challenges yourself at your ministry job, then you can bet that you aren’t helping any who cross your ministerial path. No, everything does not have to be "in your face" to be a life altering. But, the seven last words of the church are: "We have always done it that way." Maybe the person who most needs to be challenged in your ministry is *you*.

Are you shaking up the status quo? Are you helping others (and yourself) examine their lives, their beliefs and their theologies in the midst of the life altering Grace of God?

"But if I do that, really do that, I will get fired," you think. Yes, you will get fired. Or maybe as a volunteer you will get asked to "find another ministry." That’s okay, too. Go somewhere else and shake the trees. Or leave church work behind completely if it’s destroying you- in the emotionally and spiritually toxic environments that so many churches create. You might even find out that working in the secular world has more spirituality than you thought.

Do what’s right instead of what’s safe. Be in ministry first and a job second. Seek out "theological disobedience."

And wake up every morning just a little bit nervous.

Grace to you,
Sean
